Fountain at the Frankenbrücke (Brunnen an der Frankenbrücke)

Short facts

  • Coburg
  • Sights
Near the Frankenbrücke, directly at the junction of Hutstraße/Marschberg, an opulent fountain is attached to a wall. Originally it belonged to the richly decorated façade of an Art Nouveau building. This representative residential building, which stood in Weichengereuth, had been built by the master mason Carl Bauer in 1904. In 1989 it was demolished for the construction of the Frankenbrücke. The ornaments of the house and the fountain were dismantled and removed as a precaution. In 1997, only the wall fountain was restored. It was installed near the place where a fountain (Ölbergbrunnen) had previously been located. Today's drinking fountain with its three water spouts shows a large lion mask in the centre, to the left and right of it a hippocamp - a mythical creature, a horse in front and a fish in the back.
