Fountain "At the Green Tree" (Brunnen "Am Grünen Baum“ )

Short facts

  • Coburg
  • Sights
Even today, the fountain "At the Green Tree" ("Am Grünen Baum") is a reminder of the inn of the same name that used to stand in the immediate vicinity. In the meantime, it is often referred to as the "Sparkassenbrunnen", because it stands in front of the savings bank building on the southwest side of Coburg's market place at the corner of Rosengasse. The fountain was first constructed of wood in 1550, and in 1677 it was rebuilt as a stone fountain. It drew its water from 1670 with a water pipe from the Rückert Fountain (Rückertbrunnen). In 1977, a renovation was carried out. A stone lion stands in the centre of a stone column and holds a coat of arms with Saint Mauritius as the town emblem in its paws.
