The tourist information office at Herrngasse 4 is located in a historic building, the core of which dates back to the late Gothic period. The building was first mentioned in 1457 as part of the Kastenamtlehen estate. Around 1600, the façade was embellished with a majestic round-arched portal. The ducal chamber acquired the house in 1586 to set up offices, the ducal printing works and later a tavern for city councillors. It was destroyed by fires in 1590 and 1592. A new building in Renaissance style, constructed with sandstone blocks, was completed in 1598. The former passageway to the Casimir cellar beneath the rear building, which served as the duke’s tavern between 1601 and 1604, no longer exists. The building also housed the imperial post office. It had a carriage lane through which horse-drawn carriages could drive directly into the atrium. In 1977, the city of Coburg acquired the building, renovated it and set up the tourist information office there. Extensive modernisation and restoration work was completed in 2023–2024, making the office virtually barrier-free and sustainable. Visitors will find all the information they need for their holiday and tourist activities in Coburg here. Coburg Marketing is located on the upper floor. Welcome!
