Albert Square, located south of Coburg’s old town in the Ketschenvorstadt district, has undergone a remarkable transformation. Once dominated by parked cars, the area now invites visitors to stroll along its newly designed pathways, meet for a coffee, or enjoy a shopping trip. Named after Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, Coburg’s most famous son, the square is surrounded by impressive neo-Gothic architecture. Notable landmarks include the Luther School and the former Weiss Candy Factory (1860–1974), now a residential and commercial building. These structures are part of a unique neo-Gothic architectural belt that spans the old town, unparalleled in Europe for its completeness. Visitors can also discover remnants of Coburg’s historic town wall, as the square once stood between the inner and outer town defences. Thanks to extensive renovations, Albert Square now features a playful water fountain, adding a refreshing touch and making it the perfect spot to pause and relax.
