Short facts

  • Sights, Theatre
Coburg State Theatre is a historic institution offering opera, theatre and ballet in a magnificent classical setting. The people of Coburg have cherished their theatre for centuries, with a rich tradition dating back to 1683 when Duke Albrecht established a theatre hall for travelling performers. The theatre, designed by Carl Balthasar Harres, a student of Schinkel, was inaugurated in 1840 and stands proudly on Palace Square, directly facing Ehrenburg Palace. Its Neo-classical façade and elegant architecture make it one of Bavaria’s most impressive theatre buildings. For several years, Coburg State Theatre will undergo extensive refurbishment to preserve its historic beauty and enhance its facilities. In the meantime, the GLOBE COBURG venue attracts theatre lovers from across the region.
