Timber-framed heritage in Coburg: Münzmeisterhaus

The Münzmeisterhaus, located at Ketschengasse 7, was constructed in the 15th century as the residence of the Rosenau family, who held the prestigious position of mint masters. Its timber-frame structure showcases a distinctive Alemannic construction style, making it one of the oldest surviving half-timbered houses of its kind in Germany. Although a plaque on the building refers to the year 1333, the timber-frame structure did not yet exist at that time. The Münzmeisterhaus is a testament to Coburg’s rich architectural and historical legacy, tied closely to the influential Rosenau family, many of whom served as councilmen and mayors of the town.
