The spacious Hofgarten Park stretches between Palace Square (Schlossplatz) and Veste Coburg.
This historic park was originally laid out between 1680 and 1682 by Duke Albrecht of Saxe-Coburg as a Baroque garden. In the 19th century, Duke Ernst I transformed it into an English-style landscape garden, creating winding paths and open meadows, complemented by an impressive collection of rare and exotic trees. Highlights of the park include the mausoleum of Duke Franz Friedrich Anton, the equestrian statue of Duke Ernst II, and the Museum of Natural Sciences. Visitors can also enjoy views of Coburg’s old town from various vantage points.
For romantics, the Little Rose Garden (Kleiner Rosengarten) is a hidden gem. Adjacent to the exhibition pavilion of the Coburg Art Association (Kunstverein), it features charming flowerbeds, fountains, sculptures, and benches that invite moments of quiet reflection.
